Mental Health

Mental health is the psychological state of a human being that is functioning at a higher level of emotional and behavioral state. There are more than 200 forms of mental illness condition. Mental health involves a person's ability to enjoy life and maintain a balance between the activities of normal life and efforts to achieve human resilience. It is important at every stage of life, including childhood and adolescence, through adulthood. Half of the mental health conditions begin by age 14 and the rest develop by age 24. Prevention of mental disorders at an early age can significantly reduce the risk to the child in later life.

Bipolar Disorder

If you have bipolar disorder, you may notice major changes in your mood. You can have mania, and then you feel very happy and full of energy. But you can also go through a period of depression and find yourself feeling sad and hopeless.

Bipolar I disorder involves periods of full-blown mania. You may have high energy and may behave recklessly and act extremely impulsively.

If you have bipolar disorder, you will get "low-grade" periods of mania. When this happens, your mood and high energy may be "up," but your symptoms don't get in the way of your daily life.

With severe bipolar disorder, you may also have hallucinations, where you see or hear things that are not there. You may also have delusions, in which you believe strongly in something that is not true. This is when it is easy to confuse bipolar disorder with schizophrenia.
